This SWOT thing is pretty annoying. I’m unsure as to whether I’m supposed to include the whole table within the essay, or text based…lame. I suppose I’ll have to get some assistance on this. Annoying.

So I’ve launched a website, basically covering movies, TV, and so on. I’ll now be posting my reviews at the address posted, and this blog will be- well, a reflective journal. Lol.

First of all, I’ll say that this review is LONG overdue, I went to see this movie last Friday and simply put, it is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while. That maybe an overstatement, but I honestly don’t care. This movie seemed so real, sure there were times where you could tell CGI was used, but apart from those brief scenes, I don’t care what anybody says, It’s real.
Seriously though, I’ve seen some of Neil Blomkamp’s work, and it’s very similar-Realistic effects. You see plenty of films nowadays which use like a crapload of CGI and yeah it may impress alot of people, and, when done right, it’ll impress the hell out of me. I’ll give a good example, but now- D9.
Now, the plot in this I felt was quite commendable, and I applaud both Blomkamp and Tatchell on the good work on both this and the dialogue. If I’m going to be completely honest, when I first started watching it, there was a moment- A very SHORT moment where I was getting bored. It wasn’t what I was expecting at all, but then around 15 minutes into it, it begins to make a bit of sense.
Now I MUST address the ship- Now THAT impressed me. ALOT. I’m not sure if it was the cinematography or the effects or both, but it looked beautiful. I saw that and I smiled and nodded my head in approval. Hahaha. For those of you who are interested, YouTube- “Halo: Landfall”. The similarities are striking. The ship in that is VERY reminiscent of that in D9.
The main character, Wikas, portrayed by Sharlto Copley, was well done also, I loved his character in this movie, this guy could really emote well. I felt his performance, and really went well with the realism of the movie altogether.
Let’s talk about the creatures, or ‘Prawns’ as they’re referred to in the movie. I forget what they’re based on, but whatever it is, obviously alot of work went into them. Again with the realism here; The expressions, the movement, the sounds that emanate from these, these creatures were nothing short of awesome. Apparently, after doing a bit of research, these ‘Prawns’, were all CGI. Very surprised, would’ve thought some of them were animatronic or something. Thats a different thing altogether again- another time.
I just have ONE problem with the film- For the first quarter it’s shot in a documentary style format, mockumentary, as it’s well known, and then they just seem to drop this…Then again bring it back…Halfway into the film…Then again toward the end for a very short time…then again at the end. It just seemed a little inconsistent to me, a good chunk of the film was shot in a normal format (Not completely)and it seemed a little odd just to bring it up in weird times intervals.
All in all, enjoyed this film alot, it’s one of those films that I could literally watch again and again, and not get bored. Will definitely buy this on DVD.
Good film, good plot, solid action scenes, good acting, just a little let down by the odd appearance by the occassional mockumentary style interviews. Would’ve worked either way, just needed a little consistency.
8/10

P.S- I’d also like to give a shout out to Muni, who is annoying me to give him shout out. Also he gives constructive criticisms for my reviews, for which I am thankful for.

Ahh The Breakfast Club..What a movie. I remember ‘borrowing’ this movie a while ago, I had heard alot about it, but never thought of watching. I bought it on DVD quite recently, and thought it needed another watch.
1985- three years before I was born, and has absolutely no relevance to what I’m saying. I just thought I’d add a little numbers in seeing as though I’m always abc’ing it up.
I love the concept of this movie, and different things is what I usually look for in movies I watch. It isn’t really a straightforward plot- Well, there isn’t REALLY a plot..It’s more of a..Blegh..I guess the whole movie is a huge realisation for the kids in it.
The whole thing takes place in a high school/Library, which I loved; keeping it simple, no distractions, just concentrating on the main task at hand- the kids.
Now, for those of you who don’t know, there are 5 kids, and each of them have supposedly done something in order to get detention on a Saturday morning. Saturday morning? Really? Blegh. Anyway, they’ve done something bad to get into this, and as the movie goes along we(the audience) get to know each of the characters, and why they’re ist n detention in the first place, and what makes each of them completely different to each other. Well..No I wouldn’t say COMPLETELY, I mean, they’re all teens with problems. Thats pretty damn similar to me.
Seriously though, they all seemingly distant from each other, and as the movie progresses, the bonding process brings them all together. it sounds like a pretty straightforward concept- and it is, but how it’s told is what makes it so interesting to watch.
I will say it’s probably ONE OF if not, THE best teen movie of all time. American Pie is good too, but thats a different time, different review people. It will happen. Look at me talking as though I have like a billion people who read this.
Probably not as fun packed as my other reviews, but I want to watch The Wrestler so I can review it’s ass.

Also, just a quick reminder for myself I guess, I’ll be posting up a review(ish) for a movie I saw in yesterday’s lecture, Falling Down.

So I bought a pad today. I bought a pad so I can take notes down on movies I watch. Now, I’ve wanted to do this for a while, but I need to motivate myself more. I’m also gonna make a start on my 3D reflection of myself thingy.
About the notes, I’ll probs scan my notes in maybe, then reflect on them here. Seems like an idea to me. WHAT.

Ok, so i had my review last thursday, and basically i was told to do like a minimum of 2 entires a week. this, to me was doable. is doable a word? whatevs. anyway, today we had a lecture and a seminar, both were quite very fulfilling. The lecture introduced me to a new movie; a movie that has supposedly influenced Tim Burton. Instantly, i could see the resemblance between this and Burtons movies.
The seminar got me thinking about doing some filming whenever i could. the lesson was about active learning. but more on this a little later. I’m not sure how much i get charged for this on my phone lol.

So I was talking to a relatively normal person on SL. Not.
[5:11] Kaz Weatherwax: Hi
[5:12] Rainbow Sugarplum: hello
[5:12] Kaz Weatherwax: Mind if I ask you some questions
[5:12] Kaz Weatherwax: Its for a course I’m doing
[5:12] Rainbow Sugarplum: no, go ahead..
[5:12] Kaz Weatherwax: Sweet.
[5:12] Kaz Weatherwax: So WHat do you do here exactly? As in, YOU in particular..?
[5:13] Rainbow Sugarplum: well i dance in the club over there, and i rent this shop..
[5:13] Kaz Weatherwax: Coco Bongo?
[5:13] Rainbow Sugarplum: yes, its agreat club i love it..
[5:14] Kaz Weatherwax: So, are you giving rent, or are you getting it?
[5:14] Rainbow Sugarplum: i pay rent to the owner,, so i can sell my stuff..
[5:14] Kaz Weatherwax: Ahh sweet
[5:14] Kaz Weatherwax: And you sell skins and stuff?
[5:15] Rainbow Sugarplum: sometimes..
[5:15] Rainbow Sugarplum: but im not expensive like all the other shops..
[5:15] Kaz Weatherwax: I see
[5:15] Rainbow Sugarplum: i sell things as cheap as i can..
[5:16] Kaz Weatherwax: So for example, how much is an average skin and how much do you sell them for?
[5:16] Rainbow Sugarplum: an average skin can cost anything between 300ls..to….8000ls..
[5:17] Kaz Weatherwax: how much real money have you invested in this?
[5:18] Rainbow Sugarplum: why?
[5:18] Kaz Weatherwax: Lol you don’t have to answer it, I’m just finding stuff out about SL and people in it
[5:18] Rainbow Sugarplum: who are you?.. and why al the questions..?
[5:18] Kaz Weatherwax: Tell me if your uncomfortable with these questions
[5:19] Rainbow Sugarplum: well if im uncomfortable i,ll tell you and i will not answer..
[5:19] Rainbow Sugarplum: it depends how personal you get..lol..
[5:20] Kaz Weatherwax: Lol no problem
[5:20] Rainbow Sugarplum: i pay 300 ls aweek for my rental of this shop..
[5:21] Kaz Weatherwax: Oh cool
[5:21] Kaz Weatherwax: I think thats plenty of info for more
[5:21] Kaz Weatherwax: Thanks for that
[5:21] Rainbow Sugarplum: but if i dont sell anything then whatever i make at the club has to pay the rent.. but i can earn 300ls in one night..
This is the second person who got all weird when I asked about money..Its like they’re not allowed or something..The first person got defensive and snapped at me saying “its personal”. I think its a bad area to delve into. VERY bad.

So these pictures are from when i visited someone’s home in Second Life, the person who owns it was the same person who had helped me as I explained in my earlier post. It was pretty cool seeing a house modelled in SL, but when I asked her about how much she had spent on the house, she said 3000. Now, I wasn’t sure if that was 3000 real or 3000 in Linden dollars. I’m gonna go ahead and guess that she spent 3000 in real money. 3000 (I don’t think) won’t buy you a house, 3000 in real money is approximately 784144, this is based on $3000, not £. But anyway, its really hard trying to find someone to talk to on SL, but the girl mentioned above was indeed quite helpful.
I’m not sure if she actually sleeps in this bed and watched herself sleep for 8 hours, but hey, who wouldn’t?!

I’ve now seen this movie twice, and its just..wow. The story, the acting, is amazing. Granted, I’m a fan of wrestling so theres going to be that added element of interest for me, but even for a person who doesn’t like wrestling, i would definitely recommend. The angles used in this movie were for me, brilliant, and theres a shot at the end of the movie which was just fantastic..I loved every second of this movie, I’ll definitely be watching it again. Brilliant.
